Hydroelectric power plant in Norway

Van de Wetering has transported the turbine for Norway’s largest hydroelectric power plant!

A hydroelectric power plant is under construction in Lysebotn, Norway. This plant is being built inside a mountain, next to the existing Lysebotn 1 hydroelectric power plant. The project, called Lysebotn 2, will have a final capacity of 370 MW and will generate 1.5 terawatt-hours of electricity per year. This makes it Norway’s largest hydroelectric power plant!

For this massive project, Van de Wetering was tasked with transporting the so-called “snail”—the turbine through which the water flows. This turbine came from Spain. Because the construction site of the hydroelectric power plant was inaccessible to a special transport like this, the final leg of the journey had to be completed by boat, which produced some spectacular footage!
